Cannes Fringe Covers straight 8 at Cannes

May 21, 2007

Cannes Fringe has joined forces with one of the most prominent and successful Fringe events at Cannes this year – straight 8. For those of you who don’t know straight 8 is a competition with a very simple formula.

Applicants shoot a film on a single cartridge of super 8mm film. You can only edit in-camera. Then applicants hand back their un-developed film for processing along with an original soundtrack.
The first time that successful entrants see their film is with a packed cinema audience at Cannes!

Cannes Fringe has been given unlimited access to the event at Cannes this year. We will be interviewing the finalists and showing teaser clips of the films so you get a taster for the talent involved in this years event. We will be covering the event itself getting instant feedback from the finalists after they see their short for the first time.

straight 8 has grown in popularity since its inauguration in 1999 and is now one of the fringe events to see while at the festival.

this screening is in association with Rushes Post-production, the APA along with suppost from Framepool who are sponsoring one late entry film.

To be kept up to date about this and our other screenings, please make sure you register your email address with the guys at straight 8 at http://www.straight8.net.

Details about how to get tickets will be emailed and up on their site nearer the time. For now please put Friday 22nd June, 11.30 AM in your Cannes diary for coffee, croissants and a 12 noon prompt start.

GET STRAIGHT 8 TASTER CLIPS TO YOUR MOBILE WHILE AT CANNES AND RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

We will be offering downloads to your mobile while in Cannes this year. We will be working with straight 8 to allow you to receive appetizing clips of the finalist’s work before the event. it is free to receive the content by registering your mobile phone number here.

We will even be sending out a reminder clip to your mobiles at 10am on Friday morning just to let you know what’s going on and where!

We are however kindly asking (not telling) those who decide to register to pledge a donation to our charity associate, The Fireflies Charity Bike ride for Leukemia. Those involved undertake an 8 day journey from Geneva to Cannes during the festival covering some of the most arduous stages of the Tour de France. If you fancy giving them a little support go to www.justgiving.com/fireflies and pledge…no amount is too small…

In a bit, Cannes Fringe
