Isobar steps up as content partners
May 31, 2007
This week the Cannes Fringe takes on it’s first agency network partner, and who better to step up to the mark than the progressive digital agency network that is, Isobar.
April Simpson, Network Development Manager at Isobar first approached the Cannes Fringe team last week, after a tip off from network agency Glue, that something big was going down at Cannes this year.
Isobar is to repeat its 2nd year coverage of the adverting festival via its own .TV website to be launched later this month, and over a coffee meeting yesterday it was all agreed that the Cannes Fringe and Isobar would start to work together and share content and promote each others Cannes activity through each others websites, bringing more great content to an even broader online audience.
All very good.

May 29, 2007
Great advertising demands that the boundaries are pushed… and
advertisers often tiptoe across a line perilously close to the edge of
acceptance. But what does the fine line between what is seen as
tolerable, and what is considered offensive, look like? In an ever more
competitive environment where advertisers battle to be noticed, is it OK
to offend?
Sex, death, humour, the environment and how to chew food: it’s vital to
know which visual buttons to press and which to avoid. Never more so
than now as new media sets new terms for brand marketing. Provocation is
just the beginning.
Whether creating within the rule-bound challenge of mainstream
advertising, pioneering branded content, exploiting viral or adapting a
campaign to meet complex regional variations, this session will inspire,
inform and even irritate. Getty Images wants to get under the skin - so
that they know better, how far to penetrate the consumer.
A panel of creative leaders and boundary-breakers join Getty Images to
explore the limits and look over the creative edge. Getty Images will be
showing the key movers and nailing the big opportunities.
Delegates will be provoked as to what Getty Images can see and do in
communications today. They should expect to be pleasured, offended and
surprised all at once.
This is all happening between 17:00 - 17:45 (Debussy) on Wednesday 20 June PM
Moderator: Lewis Blackwell - Group Creative Director, Getty Images;
Panel includes: Oliviero Toscani - Photographer, Co-founder, Colors
magazine;
Joanna Shields - President, International, Bebo.com;
David Rolfe - Senior Vice President, Director of Branded Production, DDB
Chicago
We at Cannes Fringe will be interviewing members of the panel prior to the event to allow delegates a taster of what will be further discussed within the event. Keep eyes peeled so that you are up to date with any and all debates here at Cannes Fringe during the festival!

Cannes Fringe Covers straight 8 at Cannes
May 21, 2007
Cannes Fringe has joined forces with one of the most prominent and successful Fringe events at Cannes this year – straight 8. For those of you who don’t know straight 8 is a competition with a very simple formula.
Applicants shoot a film on a single cartridge of super 8mm film. You can only edit in-camera. Then applicants hand back their un-developed film for processing along with an original soundtrack.
The first time that successful entrants see their film is with a packed cinema audience at Cannes!
Cannes Fringe has been given unlimited access to the event at Cannes this year. We will be interviewing the finalists and showing teaser clips of the films so you get a taster for the talent involved in this years event. We will be covering the event itself getting instant feedback from the finalists after they see their short for the first time.
straight 8 has grown in popularity since its inauguration in 1999 and is now one of the fringe events to see while at the festival.
this screening is in association with Rushes Post-production, the APA along with suppost from Framepool who are sponsoring one late entry film.
To be kept up to date about this and our other screenings, please make sure you register your email address with the guys at straight 8 at http://www.straight8.net.
Details about how to get tickets will be emailed and up on their site nearer the time. For now please put Friday 22nd June, 11.30 AM in your Cannes diary for coffee, croissants and a 12 noon prompt start.
GET STRAIGHT 8 TASTER CLIPS TO YOUR MOBILE WHILE AT CANNES AND RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY
We will be offering downloads to your mobile while in Cannes this year. We will be working with straight 8 to allow you to receive appetizing clips of the finalist’s work before the event. it is free to receive the content by registering your mobile phone number here.
We will even be sending out a reminder clip to your mobiles at 10am on Friday morning just to let you know what’s going on and where!
We are however kindly asking (not telling) those who decide to register to pledge a donation to our charity associate, The Fireflies Charity Bike ride for Leukemia. Those involved undertake an 8 day journey from Geneva to Cannes during the festival covering some of the most arduous stages of the Tour de France. If you fancy giving them a little support go to www.justgiving.com/fireflies and pledge…no amount is too small…
